Summary

It has keen shown that certain slow neurological diseases swzh as bovine spDngiform encephalothy (also known as “mad cow” disease) cxnild It transmittal through contaminatd focd intake by animals; therefore, the examination of meat compcnent in com-mercial fJs is impDrtant for the control of the disease in public health. The combination of poilymerase chain reaction- restriction frag-ment length polymorphisms (PCR-RFLPs) tohnirpe was applied to examine the meat compo’nenls in dog and cat u.minaiy courercial f3s The priial nucleotide souence (359bp) of animal mitcxhondrial cybochrome b (cyt b, CY1) gene was amplified by PCR and then digestd with restriction enzyme Alu I or Mko I. hi this book eight brands of commercial dog and cat fis available in Taiwan were examined. All hands of dog f-Js that were testl contained meat from four different animals (cattle, pig, gout and chictn). In cat f-Js, the chicken meat was found in five out of eight hands.
