The phosphotungstic acid negative staing technique is quite simple, rapid and high resolutional power, make it to provied a rapid diagnosis of viral infection. Some virus could not be isolated or cultivated by the tissue culture method, rabbit haemorrhagic disease virus,could be identified by the negative staining electron microscopy. In Taiwan we made final diagnosis of caprine arthritis-encephalitis,enzootic abortion of ewe, and rabbit haemorrahgic disease by electron microscopy recently. some pleomorphic or low titer viruses such as hog cholera virus, akabane virus, and bovine viral diarrhea virus, could be identified by immuno negative staining electron microscopy method.
