Summary

Animal Health Research Institute (AHRI) is the unique national animal diseases diagnostic laboratory in Taiwan.  In order to strengthen the capability of diagnosis, surveillance, prevention and control for animal diseases, we apply the clinical pathology, histopathology, microbiology and epidemiology methods to diagnose the animal diseases and provide preventive approaches.  A total of 2,043 cases including 654 ruminant cases, 715 avian cases, 203 porcine cases, 351 pet and laboratory animal cases, and 120 aquatic animal cases were submitted to the Animal Disease Diagnostic Center of AHRI for veterinary service and disease diagnosis.  Among these cases, most of the ruminant cases were submitted for surveillance of transmissible spongiform encephalopathy from cattle and goats.  Most of the avian cases were submitted for surveillance of avian influenza virus.  Porcine circovirus infection, porcine respiratory disease complex, salmonellosis, and porcine teschovirus infection were the major swine diseases.
