Summary

In order to confirm the period of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) prevalence in Taiwan, we had tested the sero-conversion of Hemagglutination- Inhibition (HI) antibodies positive against Jepanese Encephalitis Virus (JEV) of 2 months old pigs (slaughters and gilts), 30 or 50 heads, from North (Yilan Prefecture), Middle (Taichung Prefecture) and South (Tainan Prefecture) region in Taiwan. The results revealed the HI antibodies positive against JEV pigs appeared at March, April and February in Yilan, Taichung and Tainan prefectures, respectively, and then the percentages of HI titer positive pigs were increasing gradually to 100 % at June and maintaining to October. In other words, the period of JE prevalence in Taiwan was from February to December and the period of JE major epidemic was from June to October.
