Summary

Rently, the cattle industry is deeloping promptly in Taiwan. In order to prevent and control the dreadful disease, Infeetious Bovine Rhinotracheitis (IBR), it is necessary to establish a rapid diagnostic methcd. The authors preparer! a leui of srthfic conjugate (stainning titer 16x), using rabbit hyerirnmuried anti- IBR serum with neutralizing antibcdy level 1 280x, An one-week-old calf without suckling colostrum was intravenously inCculated with 3m1. of virulent tSR virus (titerd 1O”(6.5) TCID 50/mL). Clinical signs such as fever, depression, anorexia, sniveling and coughing were obierve-J, viral antigen was detazte from its nasal discharge from 4th thy through 10th day postinoculation.

When it was satrifial and insrected at 13th thy pastincculation using fluorescent anti&dy (FA) thnique. the viral antigen was found in tonsil, submaxillar lymph ncde, prescapular lymph ncde, meseneric lymph ncde, lymph ncde of kidney and trachea. No viral antigen was found in the visceral organs and other lymph nones.

Although the FA smear technique is a rapid methcd for diagnosis, it get more nonsific staining and auto-fluorescence. lii contrast the FA cell culture technique takes longer time to get result but shows much more sreific staining. Practically, it is butter to use both ahniques in diagnosis.
