Summary

Forty-sever of 350 5-week-old pigs were Ilasdy diagnosed as porcine cytonegalovirus inferztion in Taiwan in OCtoter, 198?. The clinical signs were depression and acceleraed respiratory rat The gross lesions were mainly hydrothorax (4C0-SCOrnl), marked pulmonary edema and reddish nasal muinsa. The microscopic changes were chaxaceized by nonsuppurativerl encephalitis and the presence of large ummary basophilic intranuiDlear inclusion bcdies in the cytomegalic cells of the tubuloalveolar glands of the nasal mwx6a and marked dilation of inturlobular septae of the lung. Two ldnds of virus particles llOnm and 2SOum in diameer were noed in the uk-acentrifuga& susrension of naual nma and it mutinous discharge stained by 2% phosphotungstic acid.
