Abstract
The rabies diagnosis laboratory has been set up and implemented the surveillance of animal rabies in Animal Health Research Institute since 1999. We improved our surveillance system and diagnosis methods of rabies continually by inviting foreign experts to Taiwan and dispatching researcher to the reference laboratories. To evaluate the diagnosis ability of our rabies diagnosis laboratory, we participated the "Inter-laboratory Test for Rabies diagnosis" held by European Union Reference Laboratory in September, 2014 and passed the test. According to the surveillance data at present, the disease is still restricted in the wild ferret-badgers (Melogale moschata subaurantiaca), except a house shrew (Suncus murinus) and a puppy bitten by a rabies-infected ferret-badger. The positive rates of rabies were 38.27% (403/1,053) in ferret-badgers, 0.58% (1/171) in shrew, and 0.05% (1/1,861) in dog respectively. Based on the nucleoprotein of rabies virus isolated in Taiwan ferret-badger, the result of phylogenetic analysis showed that these isolates were clearly divided into two groups namely: (1) the Middle and Southern group (TW-MS): Nantou, Taichung, Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung; and (2) the Eastern group (TW-E): Hualien, Taitung, Pingtung. Serum samples from domestic dogs in Taiwan were detected the antibodies against rabies virus by using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) during 2012-2014. Results demonstrated that the sero-positive rates of domestic dogs were 42% (239/571) in 2012, 53% (260/494) in 2013, and 62% (233/375) in 2014 respectively. However, sero-positive rates in the Eastern and Northern counties of Taiwan were only 45% (9/20) and 50% (63/127) respectively in this year. To prevent the spread of rabies epidemic in Taiwan, authority needs to pay much attention to increase the vaccination coverage rate of dog in these areas.

Abstract
In order to understand our institute education and training effectiveness and satisfaction, we surveyed three categories questionnaire in 2013. 1. 12 regular seminar questionnaire surveys. There were 404 copies of questionnaires and 301 returned (response rate 74.5%). The average satisfaction rate was 92.85%; 2. In student dormitory satisfaction survey 279 copies of questionnaires were issued, and 177 returned (response rate 63.44%). The average satisfaction rate was 93%; 3. In research reports and newsletter readership satisfaction survey, 915 copies of questionnaires were issued, and 199 returned (response rate 21.75%). The average satisfaction rate was 93.28%.
To investigate the training needs and industrial difficulties of Taiwan's poultry industry from July to October in 2013, we sent 1,996 copies of questionnaires, and 131 returned (response rate 6.56%). Biosecurity and health management issues were in great demand, followed by feed management. We hold 2 classes of farmers academy including swine and poultry farmer in 2014 and investigated the training effectiveness and satisfaction. In the future, we will survey the training effectiveness of post-training continuously.
