Abstract
Rectal swabs of five hundred and fifty swine were collected from slaughterhouse in northernTaiwan from Jan. to Nov 2006. and were analyzed for the presence of Salmonella. Isolates were identified by biological and serological characteristics. Among them, 115 samples were showed positive (20.9 %) and 116 strains of Salmonella spp. were isolated. The most prevalent serovar was Salmonella Typfimurium (30.17%). All isolates of Salmonella spp. were examined for their antimicrobial susceptibility to 15 antimicrobial drugs. Of these isolates, 102 strains ( 87.93 %) had resistance to at least one antibiotic. Among them, forty seven antibiotics-resistance patterns were found and 45 % with the ACSSuT core pattern. The antibiogram can be used in subtyping among isolates since its discriminary index (DI) is about 0.96.
