This study suce1s in finding sercdogic evidence of duck hectitis virus (DHV) in many kinds of domestic fowl. The antibcdy investigation revealed that 55% of duck flccks in Taiwan hal l.een exvoted to DHV. The antilrcdy xespnse of five survivors were evaluated for 120 days, Twentythxft stains of DHV were isoland from intestines of Cannon carp and Tilapia taken from jx,nds where affected ducklings were raised. The titer was 10-2.7-42 PFUhnI. Virus could ke isolanl from fish of the sane nd even six years after the last DHV outbreak. Viruses isolated from fish were thogenic to 5 days old duclding and rntduced typical lesion of DVH. DHV (10-2.0-3.6 PFIJhn1) was rerxvexed from Tilapia 3-5 days aft oral incculation with0.lmlofHunei-6sfrain (l0-S2PFLhn1). DHV (10-1.9-S,9PFLAnI) was also rezovered from Tilapia 2-7 days aft f1ing with intestines of dwzklir*gs died by intravenous injEction with I-Lan strain (10-7.0 EflJ5(nl).
The data strongly suggested that Cannon carp. Tilapia and domestic fowls acted as a reservoir or carrier for DHV. They provided constant sources of infection and marie it difficult to prevent DVH outbreak
