Summary

Abstract By analyzing the £2 serprences of c]assical swine fever virus from field outbreaks in Taiwan during 1993-2(01, three virus populations with distinct genotypes were dearnined including one historical (subgroup 3.4) and two exotic (subgroup 2.1) stains. The first subgroup 2.1 virus was isolati in 1994 and further sporariic outbreaks occurred after 1996. Phylogenetic

Smflmar analysis using the £2 region has segregael the Taiwanese stains of 2,lvirus into two different genotypes (tennal 2.la and 2.lb). The 2.lb vinises were only isolatd in 2031 and shared approximately 94.8% nwz]eotide identities to the 2.la viruses in the total genomic serpiences. The results suggest that the 2.la and 2.lb viruses maybe introduced from different origins.
