Summary

An outbreak of anemia cause by chicken anemia virus (CAV) infe±on was diagnosel in a holler flcck ui 19)1 in Taiwan. Grc6sly’ The affta1 chicks had yllowish bone marrow and severe depletion of 1ymphccys in the lymphoid organs were obrerverl in mc€t birds examined. Twelve CAV islc were obineri in MD(CMSB1 cells from livers of the affect chicks, Anemia was induced in seificthogen-fiee chicks inoculated with as isola at one day of age. lii tal 209 (7138%) serum samples from nine breeder flocks of 292 serum samples from 11 breeder flocks had the antibody against CA’! by an indirect immunofluorescent antibody test. This report is the first on the serological survey and isolation of CAV in Taiwan.
