Rules for the Supply of Experimental Animal

Promulgated by Animal Health Research Institute, Council of Agriculture

  1. This Rules, promulgated by the Animal Drug Assay Branch, Animal Health Research Institute (hereafter referred as the Branch), is about the production of experimental animals and for the supply of animals produced to other research and educational organizations and manufacturers of biologics.
     
  2. Specifications of experimental animals

A. Serum antibody negative (SAN) chicks: Hatched chicks or chicks under 5 weeks old. These chicks are derived from the eggs which are laid by SAN chickens. The SAN chickens are reared in the positive-pressure closed animal houses and monitored for environmental pathogens and chicken serum antibodies against specified pathogens every 2 months to assure the quality of layers meets the SAN requirements. All monitoring results are open to public.

B. Fertilized SAN eggs: Hatching SAN eggs of 6 to 10 days and SAN eggs without hatching. The fertility of unhatched SAN eggs shall be 75% guaranteed. All of the eggs derived from SAN layers as defined at Item 2. A.

C. SPF rabbits: The rabbits are New Zealand white breed. The rabbits are reared in positive–pressure closed animal houses and monitored for environmental pathogens and rabbit serum antibodies against specified pathogens every 3 months to assure the quality of rabbits meets the SPF requirements. All monitoring results are open to public.

D. Rabbits of clean conventional grade: Rabbits are New Zealand white breed, and the quality level of them belongs to clean conventional grade.

 

  1. Applicants and processing procedures

A. The animal are supplied to Animal Health Research Institute and the Branch for disease diagnosis, vaccine trials, drug assays and biomedical studies in priority, also can be supplied to all of domestic public and private research organizations and biologics manufacturers.

B. The applicant for the animal shall login to this website http://lams.nvri.gov.tw/ and send the order to the Branch.

C. The priority of the orders will be made according the ordinary sequence of the order received by the Branch.

D. The applicant will be informed if the supply will be delayed due to unexpected reasons or animal shortage.

E. The delivery of animal will be along with the filled supply form and processed to related units for accounting purpose.

F. The applicant shall pay the fee to the Branch and receive the receipt.
 

  1. Animal shipping

A. The applicant can get the animal at the Branch, and any loss during shipping will be at the cost of the applicant.

B. Shipping by the transportation company along the request by the applicant can be made, and any loss during shipping is the risk of the applicant.
 

  1. The prices of animal or eggs shall be initiated by the Branch based on production costs and approved by the Council of Agriculture. The prices may be adjusted at the end of year if needed.
     
  2. The price list of experimental animal is attached.
