Summary

Auzky disease (Pseudorabies) occurred in southern Taiwan from June 1971 for 2 yeas, not only had not Ia ccnuolled but also continually spread. Killed vaccine had been found to be inaderpite for the proetion of seine during natural outbea]r. But many investigators paid more attntion to the living vaccine. They had found that modified live vaccines were available for use in ste. So author tried to adapt the new iso1al Pingtung strain in chicken-kidney (CK) cell cultures. The result were summarid as follows:

1 The Pry. Pingtung strain cxuld be swxessfully adapted in CK cell aft several passages of propagating the virus in PK-15 cell culture by turns. Being passed 30 passages through CK cell culture. The CPE change was later than original virus (from 56-68 his. to 72-84 his.) and it virus titer (1’CIDSO)rose to 10^(S). (Original virus is 10^(4)inCK cell).

2.The ar]aptl virus pathogenicity to rabbit had been attenuaal. when in to rabbit theinzdose(ID) was diminished to 10^(3). (Originalvirusis 10^(6)).

3.The adaptrd virus growth curve in CK cell culture: xtracellular virus and Intracellular virus took the same curve, but Extactellular virus maintained longer and higher virus titer than Intracellular virus.

4.The adapted virus had extremely high immunity potency to SPF piglet and there were no ill pcst-vaccinael reactions such as thermal response, viremia observd but neutralization antibody titer increased slowly. It. pig thfetei dose (PD)) reached to 10^(S).
