Summary

For monitoring the prevalence of egg drop syndrome (EDS) cccurxed in laymg ducks and healer in Taiwan, a serological survey scheme using hernagglutina-tioninhibition test was carrier! out during Octoter 1988-MarchW?9. The result of the survey indicael that the EDS antibody prevalence in laying ducks was 49.4% (18CV361),andhergse9.8% (382fl, Thedatacateinferre-ithat the BIDS can infect the laying duck and breeder geese, and may transmit among these ccmmerdai waterfowl herds. The serological prevalence of BIDS in laying ducks was significantly different from that that of healer geese by cM-square t (p.c 0.01). During the survey, some laying duck herds were also oberval clinically the decrease! egg prcduction and rough egg shell. We suppose that further research should be done to darify the pathogenicity of this disease and it &nnomic impact on egg pr-cduction of watrfowls. In general, the distribution of EDS-76 antibodies in laying ducks and heeding geese will be analyzed by HI methcd.
