Summary

SUMMARY The gE and TK double deletui R23 strain of ptseudorabies virus (PrV) consatctl in Taiwan and a natural gE-deleted Bartha strain were used to develop inactivatul vathnes. The gottotiw efficacy of the two vaccines in rabbit could fulfill the requirement of national drug assay. The SPF pigs aged at four weeks old were vaccinated either with the R23 or Bartha vaccine twice at an interval of 3 weeks. Result revealed that the mean neutralizing antibody titers of R23- and Bartha- immunid pigs were 1:53.3 and 1:236, rese±ve1y, The neutralizing antibody titers ofthe vaccinated pigs rc6e sharply following challenge with the wild type virus. The mean duration of fever and virus excretions in the vaccinati pigs were d&reased comprerJ to the control pigs. The srthfic antibodies against gE in all pigs were maintrined negative after two time vaccinations, and sercoonverJ so positive pcct challenge with the wild type virus. hi summary, these two vaccines govided good jrotective efficacy in pigs and could le used for differentiating vaccinated from infected pigs.
