Six stains of virus were isolatl from brain, spleen,or inestine of pigs in 3 outheak cases i.e. pigs with nervous symptom at Taoyung in Nov. 1975;igs with rerivascular lymphocytic cufmg in ham at Peibng in Feb. 1975 and nursing pigleis with severe diarrhea at Kaohsungin Au 1976. The isolats did not show any cytopathic effect (CPE) in primary pig kidney cultures but showed rounding changes with samll plagues in the cultures aft 3 passages. The result of physiochernical charars of the iso1as indicatui that they brlonged to swine enerovirus. Morphological obervation revealed that they caused type RYE however, serological st, as oompaxed with 10 kinds of standard antisera drived from Japan, all six isolatus kelonged to serotype J5 (WHO/FAQ serotype 6). Sea collaotui from farms were sub to neutalization t, and 917% of them had antibody level of 1:10 or higher.
