Summary

Since 1982, a total of 25 cases (24 cases of broiler chicks and I case of ducklings) of ascites and riht venticular failure (ARVF) have been diagnosed in our Institute. The affected birds were depressed, reluctant to move, had a distended abdominal cavity and were dyspneic and cyanotic. Gross lesions included ascites, rightside cardiac enlargement. Livers might be swollen or atrophied with an irregular surface. Lungs were generally congested and edematous- The ARVF was prevalent in fast-growing broilers mostly at the age of 4 to 8 weeks. Most of the cases occured in the colder season especially in January and February. There was a great variation in the incidence rate (2- 85%) and case fatality rate (1-89%) of ARVF among broiler flocks. ARVF was diagnosed in all the 160 two-week-old made Muscovv ducklings raised in a duck farm. among them 145 died. All the 240 female ducklings of the same age raised in the same faint remained normal.
