Summary

Bacterial cell suspensions ofBordetellabronchisepticca (B. b.). Pasteurella multocida (P.m.) and Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae (A.p.) were separately collected, inactivated and their concentrations were adjusted. After cell suspensions were combined, poly-valent bacterin was adjuvanted with Aluminum hydroxide gel. This bacterin was found to be safe for mice, guinea- pigs and pregnant sows.

Satisfactory potency ofbacterin was obtainecd when mice were used for bio-assay. The Protective index (P1) against B.b. was U10’2.0 after intraperitoneally challenged. PIes against P.m. type A and D challenging were Ul(YO.5S and IV1.5, respectively, P1 against A.p. challenging more than 10times potency was obtained.

Three pregnant sows immunized once)3m1), twice (3m1.Sml) or thrice (3m1,5m1 and lOmI) with poly-valent bacterins their colosttial antibody titer against Bordetella bronchiseptica were 1:640,1:10, 240 and 1:20.4S0.respectively. The high maternal antibody titers from 1:80 to 1:2,560. of 4-day-old piglets born to baccinated sows were detected. It was concluded that the poly-valent bacterins were safe and tmmunopotent to experimental animals.
