Summary

The large scale chicken raising farms in Taiwan have keen sporabiic okeerval with an acute infectious fatal liver disease since February, 1976, The affected chickens died sddenly, The Cowdry type A and Scxtf full intranuclear inclusion body cxowuld ke observed from the aff&oti liver.

he virus has keen successfully isolai from the affected liver by the incxoulation of thicken kidney cell culture and the yolk sac of 6-7 day-old thicken embryo.

The bicchemical properties of isolated virus are: The prcduction of characteristic cytopathic effect (rounding of cells) and the plaque formation in the CK cell culture aft 7-9 days of incculation. Pc€itive pathogenicity to the infected chicken ernbrycs with the lesion of hemorrhage, edema, dwarfing and hepatic narc€is. and production of pcck on the choxicellantoic membrance. No hernagglutination of red blood cells of various species.

The biophysical properties of the virus are resistant to 20% etyhi ether, 0.1% sodium desoxycholate, 0.25% trypsin, pH 3.0 and 1 M?MgQ2 heating for 1 hour. The virus canss through lCOnmMillipoaefilterbutnot50nmfilt Thevirus is DNAvirus (treatment of 50ug/ml IUDR).

The isolal viruses are pathogenic to young chicken (4 day-old). From the abve result, it was suggesJ that the Inclurion Body Hepatitis (IBH) caused by Menovirus was similar to that the first report of this disease by Hernboildt and Frazier.
