Summary

In order to fiJIfifi the Office International des Epinxvies ((ME) repirement for the stuternent of free area of bvine sgiform encephaloathy (BSE), 85 cattle trains were coflectM from the a1ttars, rendering plant and the cattle herds infect! by M. tuterculosis kated in 8 fectuxes of Taiwan Cattle developed CNS signs or showed other symptoms were also included. A total of 850 train histologic tissue sections (10UIflJfl sections/train) were examined. None of the 850 brain tissue sections showed evidence relatltospongifornchange. Then, thirtyoutof the 85 braintissuesrthmens were examined further by the Western blot diagnostic ldt, No evidence of nsomi was found. These result oDuld therefore provide for OlE to roxgnize Taiwan as a free ocunty of BSE.
